Mr Khai Lam is a senior Consultant Spinal Surgeon, has helped establish the internationally renowned Spinal Unit at Guy’s and St Thomas’. He qualified from Nottingham University and completed his spinal surgery training at the Centre for Spinal Surgery and Studies, Nottingham under the auspices of Professor Robert Mulholland and Mr John Webb. His work is covered in excess of 100 published scientific papers and presentations both nationally and internationally. He receives tertiary spinal referrals from a regional population of 10 million people. He is a regular visiting Professor and advisor to the Middle East (Egypt, Kuwait, Libya, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates). He is the 1st UK recipient of the coveted Medaille D’Or from Madame Chirac, Chairman of EEDCM.
Mr Lam’s has major interests in spinal tumour/trauma/infections, cervical and lumbar disc degeneration/herniations, sciatica, neck pain, paediatric and adult deformities/scoliosis. Having been a consultant since 2004, he is proficient surgeon and a key opinion leader in minimal invasive/access spine surgery/XLIFs, cervical and lumbar disc replacement surgery, kyphoplasty ad vertebroplasty, spinal injection therapies (facet injection, epidural, nerve root blocks), paediatric and adult deformities/scoliosis surgery, and complex revision surgery).
Mr Lam’s other responsibilities include being on the editorial review board for Spine and European Spine Journal, and the Europe, Middle East and Asia Pacific (EMEA) educational supervisor for Nuvasive XLIF surgery under the auspices of SOLAS. He is the Fellowship Programme Director at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital for AOSpine and the International Group for the Advancement in Spinal Science. Mr Lam has overseen and trained over 100 visiting spinal surgeons from all over the world.
