Mr James Bliss is an expert Orthopaedic Knee Consultant at London Bridge Orthopaedics. He has been working as a Knee Consultant for over 20 years, and is highly respected within his field.
He graduated with honours from his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery degree at the University of London, in 1990. Following this he complete the Fellowship or the Royal College of Surgeons programme, achieving the coveted FRCS qualification, and also being awarded the Walter Mercer Gold medal for excellence. He then went on to attain further, higher surgical training in trauma and orthopaedics and completed a fellowship at The University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia, focusing on knee surgery.
His NHS base is Guys and St Thomas’ Hospital which has one of the biggest orthopaedic departments in the country. He was appointed as a Consultant there in 2002, and is now the Director of the Knee Service.
Mr Bliss is heavily involved in training future surgeons in complex knee surgery and is a Senior Examiner for the FRCS in Orthopaedics, one of the most important qualifications in this field. He also lectures throughout the UK and Europe, has published surgical research and runs numerous courses in knee surgery.
Mr Bliss’ private practice involves all aspects of the management of bone, joint and soft tissue knee injuries and he has particular experience and expertise in complex ligament reconstruction and revision knee replacement. Other conditions he has a specific interest in are meniscus surgery, osteotomy, revision ligament surgery, young adult knee preservation surgery and kneecap surgery.
